PLANNING: CONSTRUCTING OUR PRODUCTION IDENT

Making the Ident

A production logo is a logo used by movie producers and television production companies to brand what they produce and to establish the production company's identity.
Our production company name and logo was designed with the type of film we wanted to make in mind. Fractures is a psychological thriller with the target audience of 15 -35 male and female. We wanted our production company name and logo to suggest that Fractures delves deep into the psyche of a teenager who is struggling with everyday family dynamics. We designed the logo with a  blinking eye because the eye is often called the window to the soul and our film takes its audience deep into the mind of a very troubled girl. We cast the eye because of its arresting beauty, which we felt would attract our target audience and link to our theme, that of the troubled girl.

Our production company created our ident. We did this by getting a shot of Thea's eye blinking on my phone, which is a One Plus 6 which allows us to have a high quality extreme close up. Then we slowed the shot down to 50%, this allowed us to add the name of our ident, which is Insight Studios creating a mysterious introduction to our final piece.

We edited our ident in Final Cut Pro. When choosing the font we wanted it to be clear, bold and creative which is reflected in the font Gurmukhi MM in size 120.00. Furtherly, splitting up the words INSIGHT and STUDIOS into separate titles. This allowed us to make them fade in and out at different points, one after another.

Adding music to the ident

We searched BenSounds for copyright free music to use with out production company ident. Our brand is one that show signal to the target audience the psychological thriller. The track Rooftop is an instrumental track with a delicate yet lingering mysterious vibe which fitted our ident because of its mysterious connotations.

PLANNING : AUDIENCE QUESTIONNAIRE

The hyperlink to my questionnaire.

I designed and distributed an individual audience questionnaire to investigate my target audience's preferences about short films it tailored to our own up coming short film production. I created this to get an wider understanding of what draws people to go to the cinema and if the trailers of the films have an difference of enticing the audience in. The questionnaire goes into detail in age and gender seeing is there and difference or comparisons to any preference. We will collate the answers and use this for our planning when thinking about our context of the short film, to create the most effective film.

PLANNING: VOICEOVERS

Voiceovers

When researching voice overs we found out that a high-quality, effective voice over is a powerful tool in video production: it brings your video to life, quite literally telling your narrative . The power of voice overs offers an effective way to peak the interest in a certain audience and spread information. We used 'Final Cut Pro' to work on a voice over that we are planning to input into our final piece as the opening scene. Charlie worked on reading out a piece that was taken from within 'The Hound of the Baskerville', the novel that we are using within our piece. He focused on different tones of voice to portray the scripture with a more mysterious feel. Using the recording feature in 'Final Cut Pro' he was able to produce a voice over perfect for our piece that we can add over top of our filming later on in the production making. We thought a male voice over implied the sense that an author was reading it which would fit in more with our story line.

PLANNING: MAKING PROPS

Today in Media our group focused on the creation of one of our props that we are planning to use in the opening scene in our final piece. 'The Hound of the Baskerville' is the third of the four crime novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle featuring the detective Sherlock Holmes. We are using it to introduce the idea of a fear of dogs, which is something that is developed further in the piece. We brought an old Victorian book to represent the novel from 'Princess Alice Charity Shop' located in Esher as we wanted the book to display a rustic appeal, the old texture of the book will raise questions when viewing to where the book came from and if it holds supernatural needs.
We used 'Adobe Photoshop' to create a pastoral feel, we wanted the page to match the others in the book so using the font 'Brush Script MT' we recreated the font that is used in the book. We filtered the page to a dark cream colour to represent the age of the book to make it come across as more mysterious. We then sent the work to the printer so we could trim and stick into the book which can be seen in the final picture in our collage.
From this we have developed our photoshop skills further enabling us to recreate the title page of our book. Making this has also pushed us further into the filming aspect of our piece as we can now shoot shots ad practice filming camera angles using the book. The task did not take us long as we were able to work together developing different things such as the colour of the page and font.
